UNAM graduate wins 2023 Best Teacher Award in Khomas Region

A graduate from the University of Namibia has been honoured with the Best Teacher Award in the Khomas Region for 2023, highlighting the University’s commitment to producing top-notch educators. Amidst the challenges in the teaching and learning sectors identified by the Ministry of Basic Education, Arts and Culture, the University of Namibia’s School of Education continues to stand out for its exemplary teacher training programmes.

While there have been varying opinions on the quality of teacher education, with some analysts hastily questioning the effectiveness of training methods, it’s essential to approach these criticisms constructively. The University of Namibia, a long-standing institution in teacher education, consistently seeks to improve and adapt its programmes in response to constructive feedback.

Dr. Limbo Enock Simasiku, Head of the Department of Applied Educational Sciences, emphasises the School’s resilience and dedication to excellence, stating, “We are committed to absorbing public feedback positively to enhance our teacher training programmes, ensuring our graduates are revered both locally and internationally.”

The transformed and revised curriculum introduced at UNAM in 2023 is a testament to the University’s proactive approach to incorporating contemporary developments in education and specialised training areas.

This commitment to improvement and quality was exemplified by a visit from a distinguished graduate, Mr. Ndimba Joseph Ndimba, who recently received the 2023 Best Teacher Award in the Khomas Region for Design & Technology at the Namibian Senior Secondary Certificate Ordinary (NSSCO) level. Mr. Ndimba, a Bachelor of Education in Secondary (Honours) graduate, shared his achievement with Dr. Simasiku, expressing: “I have the desire to collaborate with the University’s faculty and students to share my expertise and succeeding teaching methods.”

Dr. Simasiku proudly acknowledges Mr. Ndimba’s accomplishment, stating, “We are proud to recognise and congratulate Mr. Ndimba for his exceptional contribution to education. His willingness to engage with our community underscores the impactful bond between UNAM and its alumni, fostering a collaborative environment that enhances the educational experience for current students.”

This accolade not only celebrates Mr. Ndimba’s individual success but also serves as a testament to the University of Namibia’s enduring legacy of nurturing educators who make significant contributions to the nation’s educational landscape.
