The computing department at Oshakati Campus recently organised an open day event under the theme of “The Road to sustainable education,” that brought together staff, students, and industry professionals to share insights into current technological developments. The event, the first of its kind at the Campus, aimed to motivate new and returning students, at the beginning of their technological careers and to promote collaboration between industry and academia in areas such as curriculum development, work-integrated learning and research. It also offered staff and students an opportunity to engage with local industry partners on the IT landscape in Northern Namibia, challenges facing the profession as well as the different career possibilities in this field of study.
Local industry experts highlighted the need for a vibrant and dynamic computing industry in northern Namibia. More professionals are needed in this part of the country.
The half-day give-and-take discussions were facilitated by the Lecturers in the Department and was attended by partners from industries like Standard Bank Namibia, who also served as event sponsor, Equip Namibia, Essentials Online Ongwediva, as well as representatives from the Northern Information Technology Center and Institute, amongst others.
