It is Africa’s first Master’s programme in Blockchain Technology
In a world rapidly shaped by digital transformation, one technology continues to redefine global systems – blockchain. From finance and logistics to identity management and national security, blockchain solutions are becoming indispensable.
Recognising the urgent demand for advanced skills in this field, the University of Namibia, together with the Africa Blockchain Institute, has introduced the Master of Science in Blockchain Technology, one of the newly accredited programmes under the joint accreditation granted by the NQA and NCHE on 10 November 2025.

Offered by the Department of Computing, Mathematical & Statistical Science in the School of Science, this 18-month postgraduate programme aims to position Namibia as a continental leader in blockchain innovation, research and capacity-building.
“The MSc in Blockchain Technology responds directly to regional and global workforce trends,” says Dr. Samuel Nuugulu, Head of Department. “Africa continues to outsource blockchain expertise, yet the demand for these skills is rising sharply across sectors.
“This programme is our commitment to producing the next generation of local innovators, solution designers and digital leaders.”
The curriculum blends advanced theory with hands-on technical training in decentralised systems, smart contracts, tokenisation, cybersecurity, digital identity, Web3, metaverse technologies, blockchain law, and decentralised finance.

Students will also develop the ability to design real-world blockchain solutions.
Real-life applications already shaping industries include supply chain tracking, financial technologies, cross-border payments, land registries, digital ID systems, public-sector transparency tools, health and climate data management, among others.
Graduates can pursue careers such as Blockchain Developers, Smart Contract Engineers, Cybersecurity Analysts, Solutions Architects, Digital Identity Specialists, Tokenomics Analysts, Blockchain Policy Advisors, and Web3 Entrepreneurs.
“Blockchain is no longer emerging, it is now a core driver of economic transformation,” adds Dr. Nuugulu. “By offering this programme, UNAM is equipping Namibia and Africa with the skilled professionals needed to harness these opportunities.”
To qualify, applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree at NQF Level 8 in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, Mathematics, Finance, Business, or a related field, with at least 60% average.
Online applications for the 2026 academic year, including all postgraduate programmes and the 1-year Honours options, are open from 12 November to 05 December 2025. Visit www.unam.edu.na for full application guidelines.
