The University of Namibia (UNAM) Southern Campus kicked off the university-wide graduation celebrations on 05 April 2024, conferring a total of 159 qualifications. This ceremony was of even greater significance, as it coincided with the campus’s 10th anniversary.

A decade of impact:

  • 2014 Southern Campus commenced educational operations
  • 2018 graduated the first cohort of 148 students
  • 2021 recorded the highest number of graduates of 243
  • More than 1 000 students graduated from the campus in five years

This milestone not only symbolises a decade of academic excellence and growth but also highlights the campus’ continued commitment to providing quality education and fostering success in the southern part of the country. Among the cohort were 2 outstanding students who achieved the prestigious distinction of cum laude.

His Excellency Dr Nangolo Mbumba, UNAM’s Chancellor, graced the ceremony with his presence and addressed the graduates emphasising that what they have achieved is beyond a certificate or a degree.

“You have acquired a passport to the future, a key of opportunity that will enable you to open doors that were closed to your forebearers.

You have now been empowered to become agents of positive change in the 21st Century who will drive Namibia’s development agenda to develop her resources for the benefit of all Namibian people.”

He further explained that: “Namibia is on the brink of an energy revolution in the Green Hydrogen and recently discovered oil and gas sectors which will all require qualified workers – therefore, embrace these opportunities that lie ahead, and use your acquired knowledge, skills and values, for the industrialisation of the Namibian economy.”

This graduation ceremony served as a proud moment for staff and students alike, showcasing the culmination of 10 years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. As graduates crossed the stage to receive their qualifications, excitement filled the room as they embarked on a new chapter in their lives, equipped with knowledge and skills.
