Three scholars from the University of Namibia Business School (NBS) recently scooped 3rd place at the Namibian Scholars’ Investment Challenge (NCIS). NCIS is a partnership between Old Mutual, and the Namibian Stock Exchange (NSX).
The competition took place on the 12th of November 2021 with 134 teams all vying for the top prize. The competition presented each team with a make-believe value of N$ 500,000.00 to buy and sell listed shares on the Namibian Stock Exchange.
Out of the 134 teams registered, the NBS team consisting of Kayembe Kazadi, Negonga Rakkel, and David Fillipus won one of the top prizes.
“I’m extremely proud of the NBS team”, remarked an appreciative mentor and lecturer, Elsie Kampala. The derivatives, Equity & Alternative Investments’ lecturer further noted that the students put their skills to good test.
“This competition has allowed these students to put the theory they are taught in class to test and I appreciated the fact that they could win this prize making use of those skills”, said an elated Kambala.
While reflecting on the experience, NBS student and team member, Kayembe Kazadi, singled out that this award is largely possible because of their lecturer’s rigorous training and motivation.
“Throughout this journey, our lecturer continuously encouraged us that the sky is not the limit and these words served as a tremendous inspiration”, said Kazadi. He further stressed that, teamwork makes the dream work.
The Namibian Scholars’ Investment challenge is a competition aimed to train Namibian youth in capital markets trading. The challenge is annually sponsored by Old Mutual with a value of N$200,000.00.
