The Namibia Financial Institutions Supervisory Authority (NAMFISA) donated 10 computers to the Centre for Research Services (CRS). The donation was received by Prof Anicia Peters, Pro-Vice Chancellor: Research, Innovation and Development on 2 November 2022, at a handover meeting held at the University of Namibia. The computers were handed to CRS by Mr. Russell Mufaya, General Manager, Human Resources, and Committee Chairperson of Corporate Social Responsibility. Mr Mufava was accompanied by Ms Victoria Muranda, spokesperson of NAMFISA and Manager of Corporate Communication and Consumer Education. The handover was witnessed by the UNAM Director of Research Services, Prof. Nelago Indongo.
The computers were donated for the establishment of the Postgraduate Research Hub (PRH), which will be an active workspace for students enrolled for higher degrees, when doing their academic research at UNAM. In his handover message, Mr. Mufaya stated that the computer donation not only reflects the social corporate responsibility of NAMFISA but also highlights the imperative role of NAMFISA in supporting postgraduate research at UNAM while realising the university’s agenda of becoming a research-intensive institution.
During the same ceremony, Prof. Peters formally launched the newly developed Higher Degrees Student Management System (HDSMS) – a system developed to capture and monitor student progression. The event also witnessed the formal launch of two administrative tools developed into electronic form versions to record student academic progress as reported by supervisors and students. The forms were developed with support from the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology Services (DICTS) at UNAM, as part of the automation and digitalization drive initiated by the Centre.
The groundbreaking event was attended by the Head of the Postgraduate Research Support Services, Dr. Armas EE Shikongo, Head of Multidisciplinary Research Services, Prof. Davis Mumbengengwi, Coordinator for Training Services, Dr. Fredrick Simasiku, Coordinator for Support Services, Mr. Nahas Angula Enkono, and other academics.
