The University of Namibia recently announced that its Alumni Association Elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) will take place on 30 June 2022, to elect a new executive committee for a three-year term, effective June 2022.
The AGM will take place at six of the university’s campuses, namely; Sam Nujoma, Eng. Jose Eduardo dos Santos, Southern, Rundu, Katima Mulilo, and Main Campus. 50 members at a given venue will constitute a quorum.
Kashiwanwa Immanuel-Neshila, Coordinator of Alumni Relations, stated that the AGM is open to all UNAM stakeholders. She further explained that: “Once you graduate from the University of Namibia, you don’t just become a former student, you become part of the university’s alumni association – a platform and opportunity to impact the university’s development”.
Administration Officer of Alumni Relations, Hirukevi Kaapama, pointed out that any Alumna can be nominated to serve as a full-time member in different portfolios ranging from chairperson or vice-chairperson to treasurer, etc.
He outlined that: “Election for membership of the Alumni Executive Committee will be held during the AGM at which only full members of the association can nominate Executive Committee officers and only full members may be nominated and appointed in these portfolios”.
Elected members will be responsible for promoting the university by fostering professional development, social engagement, and underwriting the values of the University of Namibia. Two executive members will be nominated to UNAM Council to represent the association. These members will not ordinarily be full-time UNAM staff members.
Apart from the election, the AGM will tend to the financial and engagement activities of the preceding year. Current UNAM students may attend the meeting as observers but will not be counted as members.
The association is tasked to develop rapport between the university and its alumni’. One of its core functions is to initiate fund-raising activities to support the university’s research and corporate responsibility efforts.
