The Neudamm Campus of UNAM has once again demonstrated its agricultural prowess by securing multiple awards at the 2024 Windhoek Agricultural Show, held amidst a severe drought in the country.
Despite the challenging conditions, the Neudamm Farm showcased its exceptional livestock, competing against experienced farmers and earning accolades across various categories.
Mr. Edmond Beukes, Farm Manager at Neudamm Campus, expressed great pride in the team’s accomplishments. “Our success this year is a demonstration to the spirit and dedication of our team, even in the face of a harsh drought.
“The animals’ performance shows the hard work and expertise that goes into their care,” Beukes remarked, further highlighting that this year’s achievements carry extra worth due to the difficult environmental conditions.
The Neudamm Farm emerged victorious in key categories, including:
- Afrikaner Calve Champion Bull for 2024
- Afrikaner Breed and Reserve Breed Champion Bull for 2024
- Simmentaler Class 4–6 years (3rd overall position out of 33 Bulls)
- Senior and Great Champion Kalahari Red Ram for 2024
- Junior Champion Kalahari Red Ram for 2024
These accomplishments highlight the farm’s consistent excellence, building on its previous victories.
Mr. Beukes emphasised, “The Kalahari Red rams and Afrikaner bulls continue to symbolise the strength of our breeding programme, while competing at this level confirms that our methods remain competitive with the best in the industry.”
Prof. Ndeyapo Nickanor, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Engineering & Natural Sciences at UNAM, reflected on the achievement. “In a year where drought has severely impacted agricultural activities nationwide, this victory proves our commitment to innovation and sustainability in farming. It not only serves as recognition of our quality breeds but also provides a rich learning experience for our students,” she stated.
The Neudamm Campus Farm continues to provide an ideal blend of academic excellence and practical farming skills.
Through the Farm, UNAM confirms that its students are not only knowledgeable but also equipped to excel in the competitive agricultural landscape of Namibia.
The consistent performance at national agricultural shows, together with high demand at annual auctions, positions Neudamm as a leader in Namibian agriculture, forming a path toward future successes for both students and the institution.
