In a remarkable show of solidarity and compassion, Ms. Charlotte Stromberg Bothen from Karlstad, Sweden in her personal capacity as a breast cancer survivor, donated a substantial batch of medical bras to the University of Namibia’s UNAM Cares initiative sponsored by NordiCare Ortopedi+ Rehab, a leading medical products company based in Viken, Hoganas, Sweden.
Professor Rachel Freeman (Head of UNAM Cares), extended generosity in handing over these medical bras to the Cancer Association of Namibia through the efforts of Ms. Stromberg Bothen as part of the University of Namibia’s corporate social responsibility.
The donation, valued at N$20,000 includes compression medical bras specifically designed to support breast cancer survivors for post-surgical care, following breast cancer operations in Namibia. The bras are an essential part of post-operative care, providing support and comfort to survivors during their recovery process.

The donation is set to benefit breast cancer survivors in Namibia, where access to specialized medical products remains a significant challenge. Professor Freeman stated that the Cancer Association of Namibia will distribute the items to women who have undergone breast cancer surgery, offering not just physical relief, but also a sense of dignity and empowerment during their recovery journey.
Ms. Stromberg Bothen, who is passionate about providing support for other survivors, expressed her deep commitment to helping women facing similar struggles. “As a breast cancer survivor, I understand the emotional and physical challenges that women go through after surgery. It’s not just about recovery; it’s about restoring one’s confidence and comfort during a very difficult time. This donation is a step towards improving the quality of life for these women and helping them heal, both physically and emotionally”, she said.

Professor Freeman, in a statement, remarked that “the compression bras, designed with the highest medical standards, are not only essential for the physical recovery of women post-surgery, but also provide significant emotional and mental support. Many women who undergo breast cancer surgery experience physical discomfort, emotional strain, and mental adjustment, so these specialized medical bras can help alleviate both. They support the affected area, reduce swelling, and assist in the physical healing of the surgical site”.
This donation through the friendship between Ms. Stromberg Boden, NordiCare Ortopedi+ Rehab and UNAM Cares wishes to focus on enhancing the well-being and quality of life of breast cancer survivors in Namibia.
Professor Freeman expressed immense gratitude for the donation, highlighting its importance in which the University of Namibia demonstrates that we indeed cares. “We are deeply thankful to Ms. Stromberg Bothen, Ms. Peters, Director of NordiCare Ortopedi+ Rehab for this generous contribution. This donation will make a tangible difference in the lives of Namibian women, and UNAM Cares is honoured and humbled to be the conduit through which it reaches those in need”, remarked Professor Freeman.
Mr. Rolf Hansen, CEO of the Cancer Association of Namibia, a key partner in distributing the donated items, expressed his gratitude for the much-needed support. “The Cancer Association of Namibia is delighted to receive this generous donation, and we are confident that these products will provide much-needed comfort to women recovering from breast cancer surgery,” said Mr. Hansen.
Dr Gerrit Keyter from Palliative Care Namibia remarked that “the generosity of NordiCare Ortopedi+ Rehab and Ms. Stromberg Bothen will undoubtedly impact the lives of many women who need it the most.”

Breast cancer continues to affect thousands of women around the world, and Namibia is no exception, access to specialized care and post-operative support can be limited.
As part of its ongoing commitment to improving the lives of breast cancer survivors, UNAM Cares continues to expand its corporate social responsibility ensuring that no woman faces breast cancer alone.
The handover of these critical medical products marks another milestone in the fight against breast cancer in Namibia and reinforces the importance of global collaboration in addressing health challenges.
With this donation, NordiCare Ortopedi+ Rehab, Ms. Stromberg Bothen, and of UNAM Cares are not only supporting women in their recovery but also sending a powerful message of hope and solidarity to those affected by breast cancer.
