In a brief yet profoundly, meaningful ceremony held at the University of Namibia (UNAM), Namibia Asset Management (NAM), in collaboration with the UNAM Foundation, awarded bursary funds to five promising students. This initiative, rooted in corporate social responsibility, exemplifies how meaningful partnerships can transform the landscape of higher education UNAM.

Ms Bernadette Bock, Executive Director of the UNAM Foundation, highlighted the enduring impact of collaborative efforts. “This is more than just funding,” she noted. “It is a shared belief in potential and a purposeful investment in tomorrow’s leaders.”
In his remarks, Professor Dr. Kenneth Matengu, the Vice Chancellor of UNAM, praised the bursary programme as an important aspect of creating a lasting educational legacy. Speaking to the recipients, he urged them to follow their academic goals with desire and gratitude. He stated, “This bursary is more than just financial support, as it serves as a bridge to your aspirations.” He urged them to carry it with purpose and commitment.

Representing the corporate partner, NAM CEO Mr Tarah Shaanika spoke with evident pride about the company’s ongoing support of Namibian students. “It is always fulfilling to be part of a young person’s educational journey,” he said. Since the inception of the programme in 2013, NAM has contributed over N$4.7 million, directly benefitting more than 40 students through bursaries. This impact has grown stronger since the formalisation of NAM’s partnership with the UNAM Foundation in 2019.
Mr Shaanika also shared his delight that many past recipients are now thriving professionals employed both at NAM and across respected institutions nationwide. Addressing the five new recipients, four of whom are from UNAM and one from NUST, he emphasised the importance of academic commitment. “Your studies must be your top priority,” he said. Highlighting the importance of ensuring that students pass every module, because the organisation does not fund for failed courses or modules.

The most touching moment of the occasion came from a final-year Bachelor of Chartered Accountancy student at UNAM, Rion !Narib, who spoke on behalf of his fellow recipients. Reflecting on his own journey, he expressed deep appreciation for the support he has received. “Today, I stand not just as a student, but as a testament to the power of access and opportunity,” he said. “Knowing I’m not alone has empowered me to pursue my dreams with confidence.” He thanked the UNAM Foundation for their guidance and Namibia Asset Management for believing in his potential.
As the event concluded, it became clear that the bursary handover was about more than financial assistance. It was a celebration of vision, legacy, and the collective effort to shape a generation equipped to drive Namibia forward. The ceremony was held on 06 May 2025.
